- 2006 Kawasaki KX450F (Tuscaloosa, AL) $2850
I took this bike as a trade for a 2004 Yamaha R1 street bike I had listed here on Ebay last Thursday (10/22/09). Based on what I could find on NADA.com, Ebay,... I am under the impression that an average 2006 KX450F should bring between $2800-$3200. I rode this bike and found it to start easy cold, suggesting the valves were properly adjusted and the carburetor was properly tuned. The plastic, decals, and seat cover look great. The tires look almost new, with the front tire still showing the original paint stripe. The suspension, transmission, and engine all operated as expected. The front forks leave a light residue of fork oil when it is ridden, suggesting the fork seals will need to be replaced in the future. The fork seals do not leak when the bike is sitting stationary thus they are not fully blown, but any residue suggest that the seal's life is limited. The fork tube chrome is flawless and there are no nicks or scratches to suggest the seal failure is anything more than a seal failure. New fork seals are $12 on Ebay and if you have a bike stand and can remove the forks from the bike, I expect you can have a dealer separate the fork tubes and install the new fork seals for an hour's labor. You can retain the old fluid and reinstall, but while the forks are off, I'd also replace the fork fluid as a maintenance item. I do not feel any play in either set of wheel bearings to suggest they are worn. The handle bars show signs of strap hook scratches but otherwise look good and are straight. The black wheels are perfect except for a couple of rock chips. The wheels do not have any scratches or dings. The previous owner (original owner) stated the frame had never been welded on and there is no damage or sign of frame repairs. The sprocket teeth look good, suggesting the chain and sprockets have plenty of life left in them. The previous owner said he had changed the engine oil and filter last year and only ridden it once since. There are no oil leaks or coolant leaks.
