| san luis obispo - 1956 Mahogany Colonel Delux Carver Runabout (San Luis Obispo) $7000 2008-09-18 This is a one of a kind literally, a 1956 15-4" Colonel Delux Carver Mahogany Runabout. This is the only known one in existence, 90% restored to an extreme quality. I came across it in Wisconsin back in1998 with all of its original hardware and engine (I have pics prior to restoration). The owner had run it aground a few times pushing in the bottom minimally, which has been fixed with a beam on the inside floor. There has been no expense spared in the restoration of the hull. In the original boat, there was a canvas simulated mahogany deck installed. I installed a real mahogany deck. The boat is a three ply mahogany construction. I had the rear transom rebuilt and the seats and battery box is brand new construction. From the pictures you will notice that the seats are designed to receive snap-in cushions, which I have yet to complete. For a 1956 boat there is minor cosmetic blemishes, which have all been taken out in the restoration process. There are over 9 coats of varnish on the hull, new paint on the side (the gold strip which you see in the original picture) and copper bottom paint. The hull has never been in the water since restoration, and has been in a humid environment, so there is no splitting of the wood from drying out. The floor has a grip paint for walking on. The accessories are all there in there original form and have been re-plated with chrome as they were. The only element which is missing is the bow light glass. I do have a antique bow light which I will include as well as a hand held Iva-lite which is also included. There is a horn and light for the bow. On the interior there is a remote start and control console for power and reverse. The plate which houses the remote start, with its original plastic name plate is in near perfect condition. The relay box for the electrical, still has the original decals, the interior decal in perfect condition. The steering wheel needs to be restored, but the horn button is already re-plated and in excellent condition. There is also the original fiberglass battery holder. I have the original windshield, which is broken and scratched and you will need to get a new one. 2 years ago this cost from a plastics manufacture in Torrance, was about $800.00 I have all the original rub rail, which I have yet to replace with new, but this is readily available. The motor is a Johnson Super Sea Horse 35 hp. which has been completely rebuilt and restored. Every last nut, bolt, screw you name it was replaced. I was able to even preserve the original freeze plugs. There are a few nicks in the cover paint which can be retouched and polished out or repainted. I put a more efficient prop on the motor, which is also new. I have the receipts for the motor rebuild. I have periodically kept the motor lubed and turned it over to ensure it is stored properly. Essentially what needs to be done is this: Attach chrome, install rub rail, install windshield, get cushions made, re-hook up steering, hook up wiring (very minimal) then go boating. The trailer is not registered, and I was always going to get a galvanized one to make the boat look better when it was being hauled. I got this boat when I thought I would be permanently in Chicagoland area, and have since relocated to California. For five years I have wanted to complete it and havent had the time. It is time to pass this on to a collector who understands its value and can appreciate it. As I said earlier, this is the only boat of this year and model known to be left, a first edition 15 Colonel Delux Carver Runabout from Pulaski, Wisconsin. I have provided the link to the original brochure below. (I have pics/ads of similar boats from early 60's going for 12-16k, they are a little bigger, but this should give you an idea of its worth) I have set a reserve, however I need to sell this as I am moving again, and cannot take this overseas and need to sell it. I keep telling myself not to sell it, but it may be another 15 years before I get to it, and it deserves more. Therefore, if the reserve is not met I may contact the highest bidder to offer a second chance purchase. I can deliver this with compensation for fuel and hotel if you want.
