    • Crusader/Chevy 350 FWC Inboard Engine w/ Velvet Drive (sonoma) $1500
      Here offered is a Complete Crusader V8 still attached to it's borg warner velvet drive inboard 1:1 transmission. This is a fresh water cooled engine (FWC), It has heat exchangers for both the coolant as well as the engine oil as well as the transmission fluid. All plumbing and hoses are present. All pumps and bracketry are present and look good. It was reported to have been over hauled a couple of years ago and looks it. It has Barr manifolds and they look newer. All mounts are present. All manifolds are salt water marine grade. The carb is set up for automatic./choke.

      This engine is a project. But it is a project with all parts present and still assembled. What this project needs is a newer Chevy 350 as this engine was submerged and has been salt watered.
      Consider the Alternator ($75 new), Distributor ($100 new) and starter ($100 reman) shot. Get yourself a donor 350 and swap all the marine grade gear onto the donor block. This is not something that can be done in an afternoon, but a competent mechanic can do this in 15 - 20 hours easily. I have done this a couple of times, with a Chevy block everything bolts up despite variations in production years. A rebuilt chevy 350 can be had for a grand+-, and the new electrics for a couple hundred more. A new Crusader FWC 350 with the Borg is dang near 13 THOUSAND DOLLARS! The expense of a boat engine is not just in the engine itself, but in the marine gear that goes into the build, the water cooled manifolds and the water cooled exhaust, the cooling (pumps and heat exchangers), the thick oil pan, on and on. All that is here.

      The Borg Warner Velvet Drive 1:1 marine gear is still bolted up and looks good. Borgs are know to withstand shallow immersion with out getting contaminated, as they seal up tight. That appears to be the case here. The ATF fluid is bright pink and there is no evidence of water intrusion. The shifter operates smoothly, the output flange/prop coupling spins with a nice viscous feel to it. It should be a runner. It is a relatively cheap rebuild if it is not.


      This an interesting package for someone who has some mechanic skills and time and wants a nice FWC inboard on a budget. I can not send photos, sorry. If you are serious, respond with a phone number and preferred hours. I am not interested in endless emails. The engine and I are in Sonoma, 45 minutes north of the golden gate bridge. I can deliver it. I could do the build and install but not soon. Come up and see it.

      This is a best offer situation. I am not going to give it away either. The manifolds and risers are worth $500+- new and the large heat exchanger is over $700 new (and this one looks new)...I would prefer not to part out the engine but might, if no one steps up and wants the whole thing.

      $1500 seems reasonable to me, what is this worth to you?

      The you will have to put the floor back on and do some minimal fiber glassign on top ($50 for fiebr glass mesh and liquid + $30 for plywood). The bimini top is in good shape.
      The boat has a brand new cover.
      All paper work in order.
      The trailer is a single axle and not the one in the picture.
      $1500 for this boat.....2 days worth of work and ($300) and you have a $3500 boat ready for the water. Unfortunately I do not have the time to deal with it now and the wife wants it out off the driveway.
